Since 1874
Ferndale is located in the northwest corner of Washington State along the scenic Nooksack River, ours is a city rich in history and community spirit. Officially incorporated on March 19, 1907, Ferndale was originally known as “Jam” due to a massive logjam that once clogged the river. The name was later changed by a local schoolteacher who was inspired by the lush ferns that thrived around the town’s first schoolhouse.
Today, Ferndale is a growing and vibrant community that honors its past while embracing the future. With a charming historic downtown, a strong local economy, and a welcoming small-town atmosphere, Ferndale is a place where businesses thrive, families put down roots, and visitors are always greeted with a friendly smile. Whether you’re exploring the picturesque Riverwalk, attending one of the many community events, or supporting locally owned shops and restaurants, Ferndale is a town people are proud to call home.
